Meet The Flock: Shelby Anderson
Since 1803, we’ve been a gathering place. With that legacy comes a whole host of wonderful personalities who have helped make the Golden Lamb what it is today. As we tell stories of our past, we also want to bring you tales from the legends of our present!
This summer, we reintroduced our $5 Craft Cocktail Features! Each weekend, our guests can enjoy a fresh, specialty, newly inspired cocktail.
Get to know the creator of these drinks, Shelby Anderson, as she shares some insight into the creative process of crafting the weekly drink features!
Q: When did you begin working at the Golden Lamb, and what brought you to it?
A: I’ve worked at the Golden Lamb for almost four years. My first day was on my 19th birthday and I’ve been with the Golden Lamb ever since. I’ve been in the service industry for more than seven years and love meeting new people!
Q: Where do you get your inspiration when crafting weekly drink features?
A: I get my inspiration from trying new things and creating unconventional combinations. I use local town events and seasons for inspiration. A lot of employees and guests have great ideas as well.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about the process of developing a new drink feature from concept to execution?
A: I always consider the fruits that are in season and try to use different colors and spirits, too. I like to use ingredients that are less common—like liquid smoke! Mixing things that you wouldn’t expect to be great together can make for a really fun, surprising combination! I also like for every drink to have a theme.
Q: What is your favorite cocktail you’ve made so far?
A: My favorite drink that I’ve created so far is our Watermelon Freedom Spritz! Watermelon at the beginning of summer is perfect and creating the layers to the drink with the Empress Gin, which is color changing, was so fun.
It was a record breaking drink in popularity, and I really love how it turned out!
Q: Any tips for aspiring mixologists?
A: The amount of ice you use is a big factor to your drinks, use fresh ingredients always, and think on how to pair ingredients—instead of having them stand out individually.
Q: Do you have any fun stories to share about a certain drink?
A: Lauren’s Lavender Elixir is a drink that one of the employees came up with! It was a non-alcoholic drink that she had made for us for years, and we all really enjoyed it, so I added some vanilla vodka and turned it into a drink feature!
Q: What should people know about DORA in Downtown Lebanon?
A: DORA is a great outdoor opportunity to enjoy a refreshing handcrafted drink with family and friends. I love that it helps local businesses, and it’s an especially fun time to come out when we have the 3rd Friday on Mulberry St. Concert Series!
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?
A: I appreciate my work place for letting me have such creative freedom when it comes to creating drinks.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a part of the Golden Lamb legacy?
A: I’m so happy to be a part of the Golden Lamb family! We help each other in times of need, no questions asked. We celebrate each other's accomplishments, even the little things. I couldn’t have asked for better work friends.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: I would like to personally thank the community for their participation in my creations and their success. I hope for continued support and welcome feedback and ideas!
